Pakistan backs V20 climate finance agenda

October 12, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has reaffirmed its support
for the Vulnerable Twenty Group of Countries (V20) climate finance agenda, with
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stressing fiscal responsibility and
effective implementation of climate initiatives.
He said domestic and external buffers
must be strengthened against climate challenges and geopolitical shocks, and
pointed to openings to mobilise green investment, citing Pakistan’s inaugural
green Panda bond.
He welcomed the proposed V20 fund
initiative but said it needs collective ownership, accountability and effective
implementation, and warned against initiatives being left unimplemented, citing
the Loss and Damage Fund as an example.
Senator Aurangzeb, spoke at the 17th
V20 Ministerial Dialogue, held on the sidelines of the World Bank Group-IMF
Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, according to a press release issued
by the Ministry of Finance.
He thanked the V20 for its support in
developing Pakistan’s Climate Prosperity Plan and in identifying bankable
projects to attract climate finance.
