Pakistan backs COP31 agenda, FM calls for climate action

September 22, 2026 (MLN): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the COP31 Action Agenda, highlighting its consistency with the country’s climate priorities and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0.

Speaking at the launch of the agenda, the finance minister emphasized Pakistan’s high exposure to climate risks and identified key areas of common focus, including clean energy and electrification, renewable energy development, energy-efficient buildings, climate-resilient urban development, climate education and public awareness, food security, and resilient agriculture.

Muhammad Aurangzeb welcomed the proposed Climate Implementation Bridge, which aims to convert NDC commitments into investable and bankable projects.

He emphasized that the key challenge has shifted from developing climate plans to ensuring their effective implementation.

The finance minister also appreciated the agenda’s defined action points and key performance indicators, describing the framework as practical, impact-focused, and centered on measurable outcomes.
