September 22, 2026 (MLN): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s move towards establishing a regulated framework for virtual assets, emphasizing the need to align tokenization with real economic requirements.

Speaking at the opening session of the “United Nations Digital Cooperation Day 2026 Blockchain and the Tokenized Future: Sovereign Choices and Safeguards for Next-Gen DPI,” the Finance Minister said tokenization should focus on addressing key economic needs, including reducing remittance costs, improving financing access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), supporting sovereign debt markets, and expanding financial inclusion.

He stressed that private-sector innovation must be complemented by robust state safeguards, inclusive digital infrastructure, and greater international cooperation.

The minister further emphasized the importance of ensuring that emerging economies have a meaningful role in shaping global standards for blockchain, tokenization, and next-generation digital public infrastructure.
