Pakistan, Visa strengthen collaboration to drive digital payments

January 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and global payments
giant Visa are deepening ties to accelerate digital adoption, financial
inclusion, and innovation in the country’s economy.
The discussions focused on fostering secure, scalable
digital payment solutions and supporting Pakistan’s transition toward a modern,
digitally enabled financial ecosystem, according to a press release issued.
On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting
in Davos, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb,
met with Visa Group President Oliver Jenkyn to explore avenues for strengthened
collaboration.
Senator Aurangzeb highlighted the government’s commitment to
building robust digital infrastructure, enhancing regulatory frameworks, and
creating an enabling environment for innovation, while emphasizing policy
clarity and consistent reforms as key to expanding financial inclusion.
Mr. Jenkyn reaffirmed Visa’s long-term commitment to
Pakistan, underscoring the company’s interest in supporting innovation, secure
payment solutions, and knowledge transfer.
He also pointed to the global shift toward digital payments,
the importance of resilient platforms, and the value of strong partnerships
between governments and private sector players.
Rising tourism and cross-border activity were identified as
additional opportunities for expanding international payment solutions.
Both sides agreed on the need for ongoing engagement to
deliver practical, market-ready solutions in Pakistan’s evolving digital
finance landscape.
Visa expressed its readiness to be a trusted partner in
policy and reform initiatives, supporting the country’s vision of becoming a
fully “Digital Nation.”
