February 06, 2026 (MLN): The Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ACAU) and Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to enhance bilateral cooperation against corruption, including information sharing, capacity building and technical assistance.
The MoU was signed in Islamabad during the two-day visit of
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Deputy Chairman NAB Sohail Nasir signed on behalf of
Pakistan, while Abdulaziz Kamilov, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on
Foreign Policy, represented the Uzbek side, according to the press release.
Under the agreement, the two anti-graft bodies will
coordinate on preventing and combating corruption within their respective
mandates.
Cooperation will include the exchange of information on
emerging typologies and methods of corrupt practices, as well as technical and
methodological assistance.
The framework also covers the exchange of expertise and
personnel in areas such as forensic accounting, asset investigation, forensic
engineering and money laundering.
Capacity building initiatives and public awareness efforts
are also part of the cooperation mechanism.
Both agencies said the agreement is aligned with the
commitments of Pakistan and Uzbekistan under the United Nations Convention
against Corruption (UNCAC) and is intended to strengthen institutional linkages
between the two countries.
The NAB deputy chairman said corruption remains a key
obstacle to economic development and public trust, adding that the cross-border
nature of financial crimes and illicit assets requires stronger bilateral
cooperation among UNCAC member states.
The MoU adds to recent Pakistan–Uzbekistan engagements and shows
a shared focus on transparency, accountability and governance cooperation
between the two countries.
