Pakistan, USA step up efforts to strengthen economic links

February 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and the United States agreed to strengthen economic cooperation with a focus on trade, investment and key strategic sectors.

This took place during a meeting between Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and US Commerce Secretary Howard A. Lutnick, according to a press release issued.

The Pakistani delegation, led by the finance minister, included the commerce secretary, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States and senior trade and economic officials.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their desire to expand bilateral collaboration, particularly in ICT, mining and minerals, and the energy sector, where the US showed investment interest.

Finance Minister Aurangzeb appreciated the role of the US Chamber of Commerce for organising the US–Pakistan Trade and Investment Forum scheduled for March 31, 2026, which is expected to bring together leading companies and ministerial-level participation from both countries.

He also expressed the hope that the US commerce secretary’s office would take part in the event.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining engagement and advancing discussions on investment in major projects in the coming months.
