August 05, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and the United States have made significant progress in negotiations on a proposed reciprocal trade framework, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to conclude the agreement as soon as possible.

The development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer, where they reviewed the progress of ongoing negotiations aimed at deepening bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Recalling their recent discussions in Washington, D.C., Muhammad Aurangzeb welcomed the steady progress achieved by the negotiating teams and appreciated the constructive engagement throughout the process.

Both sides noted that talks on the reciprocal trade framework had advanced considerably and agreed to maintain momentum toward finalizing the agreement, according to the press release.

The finance minister said stronger trade and investment ties with the United States would support Pakistan's export-led growth strategy, enhance economic resilience, and create new commercial opportunities for businesses in both countries.

He also stressed the importance of continued collaboration with the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) to facilitate bilateral trade and investment.

Ambassador Greer acknowledged Pakistan's consistent engagement in the negotiations and appreciated the progress made on labour and regulatory reforms, including measures related to forced labour compliance.

He reiterated the United States' commitment to advancing the discussions and expressed confidence that the remaining issues could be be resolved through continued technical engagement.

Both sides agreed to accelerate technical-level discussions, maintain close coordination, and continue regular engagement to finalize the remaining elements of the reciprocal trade framework.

They also expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding economic partnership between Pakistan and the United States.

The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary for Commerce Jawad Paul and senior officials from the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
