Pakistan, U.S. EXIM bank advance long-term investment framework

July 23, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and the United States have agreed to deepen economic cooperation by developing a strategic framework aimed at supporting long-term investment projects and expanding bilateral trade.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and U.S. Export-Import (EXIM) Bank President and Chairman John Jovanovic in Washington, D.C.

Discussions centered on enhancing commercial ties through financing for priority long-term infrastructure and development projects, while also exploring opportunities to increase trade in agricultural commodities such as cotton and soybeans, alongside the hydrocarbons sector.

During the meeting, the finance minister welcomed the U.S. EXIM Bank's proposal to establish a comprehensive framework that would consolidate Pakistan's priority projects into a multi-year pipeline, enabling greater access to U.S. financing, technology, equipment, and related services.

The two sides also agreed to identify transactions that could move forward in the near term, nominate focal persons to coordinate implementation, and work toward finalizing the strategic framework for signing on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in September 2026
