November 05, 2025(MLN): Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union to promote and protect human rights through institutional reforms, policy development, and public awareness initiatives.

The UNDP Resident Representative in Pakistan, Mr. Samuel Rizk, along with his delegation, called on the Federal Minister for Law & Justice and Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, in Islamabad. Ms. Van Nguyen, Deputy Resident Representative, was also present during the meeting, said a press release issued today.

Discussions focused on progress under the Huqooq-e-Pakistan II project, which aims to strengthen national human rights institutions, enhance government structures, integrate human rights education in universities, and promote responsible business conduct in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

The delegation informed the Minister about ongoing efforts to upgrade the Human Rights Information Management System (HRIMS) and reinforce the National Mechanism for Implementation, Reporting, and Follow-up (NMIRF) to ensure Pakistan’s effective compliance with international treaty obligations.

The project also supports the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP-BHR), emphasizing gender equality, sustainability, and GSP+ compliance.

Senator Tarar appreciated the continued support of UNDP and the EU, reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing human rights through strengthened institutions, effective frameworks, and sustained partnerships for an inclusive and rights-based society in Pakistan.
