July 29, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Türkiye are set to deepen cooperation in railways, transport and infrastructure, with a focus on modern railway technology, technology transfer, investment and local manufacturing.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi departed for Türkiye on Wednesday for a two-day official visit aimed at exploring new avenues of bilateral collaboration in the sector, according to APP.

The visit will focus on railway development, transport connectivity and infrastructure projects, along with opportunities for joint projects, strategic partnerships and expanded technical cooperation.

The minister will also review Türkiye’s advanced railway monitoring, operational control and safety systems, besides visiting modern railway technology centers and coach and locomotive manufacturing facilities.

Discussions during the visit will cover modern railway technology, showing, digitalization and infrastructure development, with Pakistan seeking to benefit from international best practices for the modernization of Pakistan Railways.

Opportunities for technology transfer and investment by Turkish companies in Pakistan Railways’ development projects will also be explored.

Cooperation in coach manufacturing, locomotive production and railway engineering is expected to support efforts to enhance Pakistan’s domestic manufacturing capacity.

Türkiye’s modern urban and high-speed rail systems will also be reviewed to assess their potential application in Pakistan as part of the government’s drive to upgrade the country’s railway network.

The visit is expected to strengthen Pakistan-Türkiye cooperation and support efforts to transform Pakistan Railways into a modern, safe, efficient and passenger-friendly transport system aligned with international standards.
