Pakistan, Tajikistan seek stronger trade, agriculture ties

September 11, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation, particularly in agriculture, food processing, livestock and agricultural technology.

Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Rana Tanveer Hussain held talks with Tajikistan's Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzoda, focusing on bilateral trade and opportunities to expand economic ties.

The minister said existing trade between the two countries needs to be increased through greater engagement and alternative avenues of trade.

Both sides identified agriculture, food processing, livestock, agricultural technology and value addition as areas with significant potential for cooperation.

The Tajik ambassador noted the decline in bilateral trade and stressed the need to explore new avenues to revive and expand commercial activity.

The two sides agreed to strengthen business-to-business contacts and explore additional opportunities in agriculture and food-related sectors.

The Tajik ambassador also invited Rana Tanveer Hussain to attend the upcoming Economic Cooperation Organization meeting scheduled for September.
