August 18, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Sweden set to explore
new avenues for economic cooperation, focusing on trade enhancement, investment
opportunities, and collaboration in sectors such as textiles, IT, mining,
renewable energy, and skill development.
Both countries emphasized the potential for Swedish
companies to benefit from Pakistan’s growing industrial and export
capabilities, while also addressing compliance reforms and climate change
challenges.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Federal
Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and the Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan,
H.E. Alexandra Berg von Linde.
The Ambassador expressed condolences over recent losses
caused by heavy rains and cloudbursts, and the minister highlighted Pakistan’s
commitment to addressing climate-related challenges.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan outlined Pakistan’s potential in
textiles, readymade garments, IT and technical education, surgical goods, and
sports equipment, while proposing seminars through the National Compliance
Centre (NCC) to educate foreign companies on compliance processes.
The Swedish Ambassador recognized Pakistan’s strong textile
exports and noted growing interest from Swedish small and medium-sized
enterprises, with a business delegation expected to visit Karachi soon.
Both sides also discussed opportunities in mining, renewable
energy, green technologies, vocational training, and healthcare, highlighting
Pakistan’s skilled workforce.
The minister encouraged further Swedish investment in
sustainable manufacturing, IT, and infrastructure and invited participation in
upcoming trade events such as FoodAg 2025.
Reaffirming commitment to deepening political, economic, and
people-to-people ties, both countries agreed that there is immense untapped
potential for bilateral cooperation.
