Pakistan, Standard Chartered Bank explore tokenization, Sukuk cooperation

September 30, 2026 (MLN): The government of Pakistan and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) have discussed future areas of cooperation, including tokenization, international Sukuk issuance and other financing options, along with possible capital market transactions to support the government's privatisation programme on both the buy-side and sell-side.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb held the talks with SCB Chief Executive Officer Bill Winters in London.

Prime Minister's Advisor on Privatisation Muhammad Ali and Finance Minister's Advisor Omer Khan also attended the meeting, said a press release issued.

The finance minister thanked the bank for its continued support to Pakistan and its role in several financing and capital market transactions.

The two sides also went over the country's ongoing structural reforms and recent macroeconomic developments.

It was noted that SCB's investor network across Europe, the Middle East and Asia could help sustain investor outreach and raise Pakistan's visibility in international markets.
