August 24, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Singapore have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across trade, investment, the digital economy and climate action, as the two countries mark 60 years of diplomatic relations established on August 17, 1966.

The occasion was marked by an exchange of felicitation letters between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, alongside messages exchanged between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Singapore's Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, APP reported.

In his message, PM Shehbaz noted that over the past six decades ties between the two countries had grown steadily on a foundation of mutual respect, goodwill and the spirit of the Commonwealth, spanning trade and investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchange.

He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to expanding cooperation both bilaterally and through multilateral platforms including ASEAN, the Commonwealth and the United Nations, and conveyed his best wishes for Singapore's continued peace, progress and prosperity.

PM Wong, in his message, said the two nations had built warm and friendly relations over six decades grounded in mutual respect and understanding.

He recalled that Pakistan was among the first countries to recognise Singapore following its independence in 1965, and noted that the two sides continued to collaborate both bilaterally and in multilateral fora, with room to expand cooperation in trade facilitation, the digital economy, people-to-people exchanges and capacity building.

DPM Dar, in his message to FM Balakrishnan, said the milestone offered a timely opportunity to inject renewed energy into bilateral ties, expressing keenness to deepen trade and investment cooperation with Singapore in high-growth sectors such as the digital economy, climate, fintech and innovation.

He extended a formal invitation to Balakrishnan to visit Islamabad for continued high-level engagement, and voiced confidence that the anniversary would usher in a new phase of practical, mutually beneficial cooperation.

FM Balakrishnan, for his part, highlighted the close people-to-people ties and ongoing cooperation in capacity building and cultural exchange, stressing that both nations must continue working together for mutual benefit amid evolving global challenges.
