July 06, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have formalized plans to strengthen sports cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of a modern cricket stadium in Jeddah.
The agreement was signed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)
Chairman and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Saudi Cricket
Federation Chairman Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Mohammed Al Saud.
The MoU outlines a framework for collaboration on the
planning, design, construction, and operational development of the proposed
stadium, according to APP.
Both countries will also cooperate in infrastructure
development, technical knowledge sharing, and the adoption of international
best practices to establish a world-class cricket venue in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prince Saud bin Mishaal
bin Mohammed Al Saud described the partnership as a milestone for the future of
cricket in the Kingdom.
He said the initiative extends beyond the construction of a
stadium and lays the groundwork for the long-term growth of the sport in Saudi
Arabia.
He noted that the project reflects the shared commitment of
both countries to strengthening bilateral cooperation through sustainable
investment and strategic collaboration.
According to the Saudi Cricket Federation chairman, the
proposed stadium will enhance the Kingdom's ability to host international
cricket fixtures, regional tournaments, and other major sporting events.
The project also supports Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 agenda
by expanding the country's sports and entertainment infrastructure, promoting
tourism, attracting investment, and encouraging greater community participation
in sports.
Pakistan is expected to contribute its extensive experience
in cricket infrastructure, stadium development, and venue management, providing
technical expertise throughout the project's execution.
The collaboration is also expected to deepen sports
diplomacy between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia while creating opportunities for
Pakistani engineers, architects, sports administrators, and coaching
professionals to participate in the Kingdom's growing sports sector.
Industry observers believe that a state-of-the-art cricket
stadium in Jeddah could raise the profile of cricket across the Gulf region and
potentially position Saudi Arabia as a future neutral venue for international
cricket events.
The initiative may also pave the way for additional cricket
infrastructure projects across the Middle East.
Earlier, Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Riyadh on an official
visit, where he also held discussions with Saudi officials on expanding
bilateral cooperation in areas including security, narcotics control, and
institutional collaboration.
