Pakistan, Russia to boost digital tax cooperation

February 20, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Russia have agreed to step up institutional engagement between their tax administrations, focusing on the use of digital systems to improve fiscal transparency and tax administration.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, and Federal Tax Service Commissioner Daniil Egorov at the Federal Tax Service of Russia, according to the press release.

During the meeting, the Russian side briefed the ambassador on digital solutions developed and implemented by its tax authority, including an automated VAT control system and an online cash register system that enables real-time monitoring of retail transactions, along with other digital tools designed for taxpayer convenience.

Ambassador Tirmizi appreciated the level of digitalization within the Russian tax system and invited Russian professionals to share technical expertise and best practices with Pakistani counterparts to support Pakistan’s digitalization efforts.

Both sides agreed to maintain active dialogue and enhance engagement at the institutional level between the tax authorities of Pakistan and Russia.
