Pakistan Railways set for major upgrade, ML-1 a key focus

August 4, 2025 (MLN): The government is giving top priority to major infrastructure development in Pakistan Railways, particularly focusing on the ML-1 Railway corridor, according to Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi.

In an interview with a private news channel, he said the government is committed to modernizing the railway infrastructure and aligning it with international standards. He added that efforts are also underway to improve governance and upgrade the railway system through the integration of digital technologies.

The ticketing app “RABTA” has been integrated with 16 banks and major online payment platforms, including Easypaisa and JazzCash, to facilitate public convenience. 

Major reforms are in progress to fully digitize railway services such as the inquiry system, train inspection, employee attendance, and freight operations. 

These initiatives are aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing service quality, and aligning railway infrastructure with international standards.

The minister also mentioned that 40 railway stations across Punjab are being equipped with free Wi-Fi with the support of the Punjab government.

He noted that most of the digitalization work has been completed and is now in its final stages.
