Pakistan, Portugal review bilateral ties, expand cooperation agenda

July 16, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Portugal reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations during the fourth round of Pakistan–Portugal Bilateral Political Consultations held on Thursday, focusing on strengthening political engagement and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the
two sides discussed collaboration in trade and investment, labour mobility,
agriculture, renewable energy, information technology, education, tourism,
culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both delegations also explored opportunities to enhance
business-to-business ties, improve port connectivity, and cooperate in olive
cultivation and processing, according to APP.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Additional Secretary
(Europe) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ayesha Ali, while the
Portuguese side was headed by Ambassador Helena Malcata, Director-General for
Foreign Policy at Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The consultations also included an exchange of views on
regional and international developments, with both sides expressing
satisfaction over their coordination in multilateral forums.
During the visit, the Portuguese delegation also met Foreign
Secretary Amna Baloch to discuss bilateral relations and regional and
international issues of mutual interest.
The Foreign Office said the consultations were held in a
cordial and constructive atmosphere. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment
to maintaining regular political dialogue and agreed to hold the next round of
Bilateral Political Consultations in Lisbon on mutually agreed dates.
