Pakistan, Poland to enhance cooperation on flood management and recovery

September 18, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in disaster management and economic recovery with a focus on an advanced flood early warning system, strategies to counter urban flooding, and building the capacity of disaster preparedness institutions.

This was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Mueen Watto and Polish Ambassador to Pakistan Maciej Pisarski, where both sides discussed the recent flood situation, the extent of damages, and avenues for closer collaboration.

The Minister noted that Pakistan experienced 15% more rainfall this year, attributed to the increase to climate change, and emphasized that collective efforts at national and international levels are essential to safeguard vulnerable communities.

Ambassador Pisarski expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property and reaffirmed Poland’s support for Pakistan in rebuilding damaged infrastructure and strengthening flood management systems.

He also shared Poland’s experience in successfully managing frequent floods and offered to provide technical expertise and best practices.

The two sides also explored opportunities to boost economic cooperation, particularly to support recovery and resilience in flood-affected regions.

It was agreed that practical steps will soon be taken to implement these initiatives and further deepen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Poland.
