July 07, 2026 (MLN): Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has reaffirmed the strategic importance of Pakistan's fertilizer partnership with Morocco, describing the Pakistan Maroc Phosphore (PMP) project as vital for ensuring the country's long-term food security.
During his visit to the Pakistan Maroc Phosphore S.A. plant in Jorf Lasfar, Morocco, the minister said the joint venture between Morocco's OCP Group and Pakistan's Fauji Foundation plays a critical role in ensuring a reliable supply of phosphate-based raw materials for Pakistan's fertilizer industry.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said the project helps safeguard Pakistan against global supply chain disruptions and market volatility by ensuring an uninterrupted supply of key fertilizer inputs.
Calling PMP a symbol of the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and Morocco, the minister said the collaboration has strengthened bilateral ties while generating mutual economic benefits and contributing to regional food security.
He directed the plant management to maintain uninterrupted supplies of raw materials and uphold operational excellence to support continuous production.
The minister also encouraged exploring opportunities to expand production capacity to meet Pakistan's rising fertilizer demand.
He noted that any surplus output could create new opportunities for international trade, improve the project's efficiency, and further strengthen commercial cooperation between the two countries.
The minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding collaboration with Morocco in agriculture, industry, trade, and investment, expressing confidence that the partnership would continue to support agricultural development, industrial growth, and sustainable food security.
