Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan sign bilateral deals to boost trade, investment

September 2, 2026 (MLN): President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed a Joint Statement along with a package of bilateral agreements covering trade, investment, and cooperation in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy, light industry, tourism, the digital economy and virtual assets, following talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Bishkek.

According to President Japarov, the two sides agreed to take systematic steps to expand bilateral trade and the range of traded goods, with particular focus on transport, logistics and energy cooperation, according to the press release.

He noted that Pakistan's seaports offer Kyrgyzstan a route to South Asian and global markets, while Kyrgyzstan could serve as a transport bridge connecting Pakistan to Central Asia and the wider Eurasian region.

President Japarov also highlighted cooperation in the energy sector, stating that both sides agreed to further strengthen work on the CASA-1000 project, which links Central Asia's energy potential with South Asia's growing energy needs.

He said the visit follows President Asif Ali Zardari's official visit to Kyrgyzstan in July this year and his own state visit to Pakistan in December last year.

President Japarov added that the two countries reaffirmed continued political dialogue and coordination within the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Economic Cooperation Organization, expressing Kyrgyzstan's support for Pakistan's ongoing chairmanship of the SCO.

On people-to-people ties, President Japarov noted that thousands of Pakistani students are currently studying in Kyrgyzstan, mainly in medical fields, alongside continued cooperation in science, culture, tourism, youth exchanges and sports.
