Pakistan Iran eye deeper cooperation on security, trade, energy

July 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Iran are set to deepen cooperation on
border management, regional security, trade and energy, as Iranian Interior
Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Islamabad on Monday on an official visit,
accompanied by a high-level delegation, with the trip expected to cover
bilateral cooperation and economic collaboration between the two neighbouring
countries.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received his Iranian counterpart
at Islamabad International Airport, where Minister of State for Interior Talal
Chaudhry presented Momeni with a bouquet, while Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan
Reza Amiri Moghadam was also present to welcome the delegation, APP reported.
Greeting the visiting minister, Mohsin Naqvi described Minister Eskandar
Momeni as a brother and expressed hope that the visit would bring good
news that would further strengthen bilateral relations, adding that the
engagement would help deepen Pakistan-Iran cooperation and yield meaningful
progress on regional issues.
The Iranian delegation included the Governor-General of Sistan and
Balochistan Province, Iran's Deputy Interior Minister, the Deputy Minister for
Urban Development and Transport, the head of the National Iranian Oil Company,
the Special Representative of the Iranian Minister of Agriculture, and other
senior officials.
During his visit, Minister Eskandar Momeni is scheduled to meet Prime
Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, with discussions
expected to cover bilateral relations, border security, trade, energy
cooperation and the evolving regional situation.
Mohsin Naqvi later held formal talks with his Iranian counterpart, during
which both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the two
countries.
Minister Eskandar Momeni, in turn, described Pakistan-Iran relations as exceptional
and rooted in mutual trust and shared history, while praising the hospitality
extended by the government and people of Pakistan.
Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence that the visit would prove productive, highlighting
the importance of sustained high-level engagement in addressing shared
challenges and advancing regional stability.
