Pakistan, Indonesia boost collaboration in minerals sector

January 23, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Indonesia
relations took a step forward as both countries signaled stronger collaboration
in the minerals, exploration, and energy sectors, which reflected a shared
interest in deepening economic and strategic ties.
In this context, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali
Pervaiz Malik met with the Ambassador of Indonesia to Pakistan, Mr.
Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo, where the two sides discussed ways to enhance
bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on minerals and exploration,
according to a press release issued.
The Pakistani minister emphasized the longstanding and
friendly relationship between the two countries, highlighting Indonesia’s
significance in the Muslim world and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to
expanding cooperation across a range of sectors.
The Indonesian envoy conveyed his country’s strong interest
in Pakistan’s mineral sector, pointing out that Indonesia’s state-owned energy
company, Pertamina, has substantial expertise in exploration.
He noted that both nations could benefit from joint
initiatives in exploration and mining activities.
Welcoming the interest, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik assured
full government support and emphasized the vast, untapped potential of
Pakistan’s mineral and exploration sector.
He encouraged Indonesian firms to collaborate with local
Pakistani companies to develop mutually beneficial projects.
The minister also formally invited Indonesia to participate
in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF) 2026, describing the
upcoming forum as a much larger event and expressing hope for robust
participation from Indonesian companies.
Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement and work
toward identifying practical avenues for cooperation in minerals, exploration,
and energy, aiming to further strengthen the growing partnership between
Pakistan and Indonesia.
