January 23, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Indonesia relations took a step forward as both countries signaled stronger collaboration in the minerals, exploration, and energy sectors, which reflected a shared interest in deepening economic and strategic ties.

In this context, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with the Ambassador of Indonesia to Pakistan, Mr. Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo, where the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on minerals and exploration, according to a press release issued.

The Pakistani minister emphasized the longstanding and friendly relationship between the two countries, highlighting Indonesia’s significance in the Muslim world and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation across a range of sectors.

The Indonesian envoy conveyed his country’s strong interest in Pakistan’s mineral sector, pointing out that Indonesia’s state-owned energy company, Pertamina, has substantial expertise in exploration.

He noted that both nations could benefit from joint initiatives in exploration and mining activities.

Welcoming the interest, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik assured full government support and emphasized the vast, untapped potential of Pakistan’s mineral and exploration sector.

He encouraged Indonesian firms to collaborate with local Pakistani companies to develop mutually beneficial projects.

The minister also formally invited Indonesia to participate in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF) 2026, describing the upcoming forum as a much larger event and expressing hope for robust participation from Indonesian companies.

Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement and work toward identifying practical avenues for cooperation in minerals, exploration, and energy, aiming to further strengthen the growing partnership between Pakistan and Indonesia.
