Pakistan, Indonesia agree to elevate ties across key sectors

December 09, 2025 (MLN):  Pakistan and Indonesia have agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship into a forward-looking and dynamic partnership, reaffirming cooperation in political engagement, trade, investment, defense, health, education, agriculture, and technology.

Both sides also committed to reviewing the Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (IP-PTA) to boost the current $4 billion trade volume and address existing trade imbalances, while strengthening collaboration in the halal industry, agricultural commodities, IT, and vocational training, said a press release issued.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received Indonesian President  Prabowo Subianto at the Prime Minister House, where the visiting leader was presented with a guard of honour.

 The two leaders held a one-on-one meeting followed by delegation-level talks attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, cabinet members, and senior officials.

They reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, witnessed the signing of multiple MoUs, and discussed regional and global issues, including Kashmir and Gaza.

The visit also marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
