October 16, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have explored ways to link climate mobility, skills development and economic growth, with a focus on disaster preparedness, safe and regular migration pathways and climate financing.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met IOM Deputy Director-General Ms. SungAh Lee on the sidelines of the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, said a press release issued.

The meeting centred on strengthening disaster preparedness through early-warning systems and population movement data.

The two sides also looked at aligning skills training with international labour demand and expanding safe and regular migration pathways.

Senator Aurangzeb highlighted the economic contribution of overseas workers, the importance of formal remittance channels and opportunities for productive investment.

Both sides also explored innovative climate financing and institutional capacity building to help develop bankable projects.
