May 22, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Germany have entered
into a €40.5 million Technical Cooperation Agreement to implement nine sweeping
development projects across Pakistan.
Designed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the initiative
targets critical sectors, including climate resilience, renewable energy, and
social protection.
Under this framework, the German Development Bank, KfW, will
provide both the financial and technical backing required to roll out these
nationwide development efforts, according to a press release issued.
The agreement was officially formalized during a signing
ceremony led by Pakistan's Secretary of Economic Affairs, Muhammad Humair Karim
Kidwai, and the German Ambassador to Pakistan, Ina Lepel.
The high-level meeting brought together key stakeholders,
with senior officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and various
representatives from the German Embassy in attendance.
During the event, Secretary Kidwai lauded the German
government and KfW for their pivotal role in Pakistan’s socio-economic
advancement.
Highlighting a foundational partnership built on mutual
trust that dates back to 1961, he noted that Germany stands as one of
Pakistan’s most vital development partners, currently maintaining an active
bilateral portfolio of approximately €550 million.
Ambassador Lepel reinforced this enduring alliance,
emphasizing Germany's dedication to sustainable and inclusive development.
She stated that the new agreement highlights a mutual
readiness to tackle pressing global issues like climate change, social
vulnerability, and energy transitions.
Ambassador Lepel expressed strong confidence that this
practical cooperation will bring tangible, meaningful benefits to local
communities while further cementing the historic ties between the two nations.
