Pakistan, Germany explore tax, investment reforms

January 28, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Germany discussed strengthening economic cooperation in trade, investment, and development during a meeting at the Finance Division.
The session brought together Federal Minister for Finance
and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Germany’s Ambassador to Pakistan,
Ina Lepel, to review the overall state of bilateral economic relations and
ongoing reform efforts.
The Finance Minister outlined the government’s economic
priorities, including macroeconomic stability, fiscal sustainability, and
growth driven by competitiveness, according to the press release.
He highlighted measures to support economic recovery,
boost export capacity, and implement structural reforms aimed at inclusive
development.
Discussions also focused on revenue and taxation reforms,
emphasizing broadening the tax base, improving compliance, and enhancing
efficiency through technology and data-driven processes.
Ambassador Lepel welcomed the reform efforts and shared
observations from the business community on the importance of policy clarity
and effective dialogue between stakeholders and public institutions.
Both sides emphasized continued engagement to ensure
policy objectives are well understood and implementation supports economic
growth and investor confidence.
The meeting also addressed administrative and
institutional measures to strengthen tax administration, improve service
delivery, and modernize systems to facilitate business activity.
Regional and global economic conditions were also
discussed, with both officials noting shared challenges and opportunities, and
reaffirming the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Germany in
support of economic reforms and mutually beneficial cooperation.
