October 15, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to deepen cooperation in maritime and industrial sectors to expand joint ventures and promote their blue economies, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The agreement emerged during a meeting between Pakistan’s
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry
and Egypt’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan.
Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening
economic and maritime ties, focusing on opportunities in port development,
shipping, logistics and industrial collaboration.
Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to improving regional
connectivity, Minister Junaid Chaudhry said, “We are working hard to establish
stronger links with Central Asian states and East African countries. Enhancing
maritime connectivity with Egypt is a vital part of this strategy.”
The minister also proposed setting up “Pakistan Houses”
across Africa, Central Asia, and Egypt to promote trade, investment, and
business partnerships, while welcoming similar initiatives from other nations
to foster mutual economic collaboration.
Egypt’s Ambassador Dr. Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan
expressed support for Pakistan’s maritime initiatives, citing Egypt’s
experience in managing the Suez Canal free zones. He offered to assist
in developing similar frameworks and joint ventures within Pakistan’s maritime
sector.
Both officials praised the competitiveness of Pakistani
exports, including spices, pharmaceuticals, leather goods, wooden crafts,
and rice, and expressed optimism that bilateral trade would grow across
multiple sectors.
The agreement marks a step forward in enhancing regional
trade, industrial development, and maritime cooperation between Pakistan
and Egypt, fostering greater integration across Asia, Africa, and the Middle
East.
