January 27, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Denmark have
emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation on climate action and science
diplomacy amid shifting global political dynamics, with a focus on equitable
climate financing, research collaboration, and academic exchanges.
The discussion took place during a meeting between Danish
Ambassador to Pakistan Ms. Maja Mortensen and Federal Minister for
Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik at the
minister’s office, according to a press release issued.
Both sides exchanged views on the evolving role of science
diplomacy in addressing global climate challenges.
During the meeting, Dr. Musadik Malik highlighted the
disproportionate impact of climate change on countries of the Global South,
despite their relatively minor contribution to global emissions.
He noted that nearly 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions
are generated by just ten countries, which also receive around 85% of global
green financing.
The minister appreciated the strong social welfare systems
and progressive environmental policies of the Nordic countries, while both
sides also discussed the broader global political situation and its
implications for climate action and international cooperation.
Dr. Malik briefed the ambassador on Pakistan’s plans to
establish a Green University aimed at promoting joint research, as well as
student and faculty exchange programmes with leading universities worldwide.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual
commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in climate action
and science diplomacy.
