Pakistan Customs seizes around Rs67m worth of smuggled Silver

November 12, 2025 (MLN): In a major anti-smuggling breakthrough, Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, intercepted a large quantity of silver jewellery being smuggled into the country through the International Mail Office (IMO).

During a detailed inspection of incoming parcels, the Customs team uncovered 79.18 kilograms of silver jewellery, valued at approximately Rs66.9 million, hidden inside three consignments falsely declared as “Ornaments/Fashion Ornaments.”

The parcels had originated from Hong Kong and were addressed to a recipient in Rawalpindi, according to the Press Release. 

Officials said the operation was a result of enhanced scrutiny measures at the International Mail Office. The smuggled goods were seized in accordance with the law before reaching their intended destination.

Authorities noted that with silver prices surging globally, smuggling attempts have increased, but this case marks the first major silver seizure at the IMO, both in volume and value.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict vigilance against all forms of smuggling, including through postal and courier networks, to protect the national economy.
