Pakistan, China pledge to accelerate next phase of CPEC

January 16, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan and China have pledged to accelerate the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and deepen collaboration between the two countries.

The two sides emphasized the importance of timely implementation of projects under the corridor and enhancing long-term strategic cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a meeting with Ms. Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, in Islamabad, highlighted China’s generous support to Pakistan and reaffirmed the country’s “iron-clad All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” with China.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the One China Policy and extended an invitation to President Xi Jinping for an official visit this year, marking a milestone in bilateral relations as the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, according to Radio Pakistan

Ms. Sun Haiyan expressed China’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing relations with Pakistan across economic and political spheres.

She congratulated the Prime Minister on bringing stability to the country and praised his efforts in unifying Pakistan’s political parties for effective governance.

The Vice Minister also emphasized the importance of party-to-party ties and China’s resolve to deepen cooperation through inter-party mechanisms.
