Pakistan, China agree to enhance financial cooperation

September 1, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and China have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the financial sector, with a particular focus on capital market linkages, during a meeting held today in Beijing between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Mr. Jing Feng, Chairman of Hongta Securities.

The Finance Minister briefed the Chinese side on Pakistan’s improving economic indicators and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to structural reforms aimed at sustainable and inclusive growth.

He drew attention to the rising confidence of international markets, reflected in recent upgrades by leading credit rating agencies.

Moody’s lifted Pakistan’s rating from Caa2 to Caa1 (Stable Outlook), while Fitch and Standard & Poor’s both revised the country’s rating from CCC+ to B- (Stable Outlook).

Discussions also focused on broadening Pakistan’s financial options and enhancing institutional investor engagement.

Senator Aurangzeb emphasized that Pakistan is keen to deepen cooperation with leading Chinese and global financial institutions to diversify investment opportunities and unlock new growth avenues.

“Pakistan is firmly committed to its reform agenda and highly values its partnership with Chinese investors. Together, we can open new pathways that will benefit both economies and expand financial cooperation,” he remarked.
