Pakistan, Bangladesh relations gain fresh momentum

February 19, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Bangladesh moved to reinforce bilateral engagement as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors during a meeting held in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The discussion took place at the Bangladesh High Commission, where Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo met Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan, to review bilateral relations and regional developments, according to the press release.

During the meeting, Pakistan conveyed congratulations on the peaceful and democratic transfer of power in Bangladesh, showing Islamabad’s intent to deepen ties with Dhaka amid the political transition in the South Asian country.

The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and the prevailing regional situation, while identifying potential avenues to enhance collaboration.

The minister said Pakistan attaches importance to its relationship with Bangladesh, citing shared historical and cultural linkages.

He pointed to education, trade and people-to-people exchanges as areas with room for further cooperation.

The Bangladeshi envoy stated that his country remains committed to democracy and transparency, with a focus on institutional reforms and sustainable national development.

He added that Bangladesh is seeking to strengthen partnerships with friendly countries, including Pakistan.

Both sides agreed to enhance bilateral engagement and explore new areas of partnership aimed at promoting mutual prosperity and regional stability, signaling renewed momentum in Pakistan Bangladesh relations.
