October 22, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PSX: PTC) staged a dramatic consolidated operational turnaround for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 (9MCY26), reporting a net profit of Rs4.73bn compared to a net loss of Rs11.18bn in the corresponding period last year.

Reflecting this bottom-line recovery, basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) turned positive at Rs0.93, up from a loss per share (LPS) of Rs2.19 in 9MCY25.

For the third quarter (Q3CY26) alone, net profit stood at Rs62.34m (EPS of Rs0.01) compared to a loss of Rs1.28bn (LPS of Rs0.25) in Q3CY25.

The primary catalyst behind the nine-month turnaround was a massive 62% expansion in consolidated revenue alongside a 63% growth in gross profit and a sharp drop in credit loss allowances.

Group revenue for 9MCY26 surged to Rs304.40bn, up from Rs188.32bn in 9MCY25. Despite cost of services expanding 61% to Rs202.49bn, gross profit reached Rs101.90bn compared to Rs62.35bn in the prior-year period.

On the operational front, administrative and general expenses rose 55% to Rs38.85bn, while selling and marketing costs grew 74% to Rs17.98bn.

However, operational performance was significantly bolstered by a 97% reduction in expected credit loss allowances (Rs288.45m down from Rs10.97bn), pushing operating profit up to Rs44.78bn.

Below the operating line, PTC absorbed higher borrowing charges as finance costs and other expenses expanded 31% to Rs47.35bn (up from Rs36.13bn in 9MCY25).

Supported by "other income" of Rs12.49bn and lower pension past service costs of Rs355.14m (down from Rs5.89bn), profit before tax reached Rs9.57bn (reversing a pre-tax loss of Rs14.22bn).

The company absorbed a corporate tax charge of Rs4.84bn for the period. Backed by strong revenue dispatches across group segments, expanding gross spreads, and lower provisioning write-offs, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited securely closed the nine-month period in the black with a net profit of Rs4.73bn
