PTA, Google sign MoU on child online safety

August 20, 2026 (MLN):  The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Google LLC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Child Online Safety, which aims to strengthen awareness, digital protection and responsible platform use among children, parents, teachers and caregivers across the country.

Under the agreement, the two sides will jointly run a Child Safety Program centered on awareness-building, education and capacity development, providing parents and teachers with practical tools and resources to help children engage with the digital world more safely.

Key components of the collaboration include producing awareness material in English as well as local languages, holding training sessions at educational institutions, and rolling out a nationwide outreach drive intended to link millions of families with localized online-safety resources and tutorials.

Chairman PTA Maj. Gen. (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, speaking at the signing, underlined the need for collective, stakeholder-driven efforts to safeguard children in an increasingly digital environment, APP reported.

Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member (Compliance & Enforcement) at PTA, stressed the importance of building digital literacy and encouraging responsible platform use to foster a safer online space for children and families in Pakistan.

The partnership highlights a shared commitment by PTA and Google to empower parents and educators, deepen digital awareness, and build a more secure online environment for children nationwide.
