May 04, 2026 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index was trading at 166,580.05, showing a strong increase of 3,585.88 points or 2.20%, as bullish momentum dominated early market activity at the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The index remained firmly positive, moving within a range of 2,161.51 points, touching an intraday high of 166,874.78 (+3,880.61) and a low of 164,713.27 (+1,719.10) points.

So far, total volume of the KSE-100 Index stood at 41.10 million shares.

Market breadth was overwhelmingly positive, with 96 stocks advancing, only 1 declining, and 3 remaining unchanged.

Top gainers included PIBTL (+6.26%), GADT (+6.02%), IBFL (+5.79%), ISL (+5.71%), and BOP (+5.36%), while PSEL (-2.12%) remained the only notable laggard.

In terms of index-point contributions, UBL (+450.91pts), FFC (+357.82pts), HUBC (+152.82pts), HBL (+146.94pts), and OGDC (+146.73pts) were the major drivers behind the rally.

Sector-wise, strong gains were witnessed across Commercial Banks, Fertilizer, Oil & Gas Exploration, Cement, and Technology, indicating broad-based buying interest.

The sharp rally came as investors reacted positively to developments surrounding rising tensions between Iran and the United States, alongside efforts to stabilize the situation in key global energy routes.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new initiative, “Project Freedom,” aimed at restoring maritime activity in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The plan, set to begin Monday (Middle East time), focuses on assisting stranded vessels particularly from non-aligned countries to safely navigate and resume trade operations.

The announcement raised hopes of easing supply disruptions in global oil markets. As a result, oil prices edged lower, improving sentiment in equity markets, particularly in energy-importing economies like Pakistan.

The prospect of smoother trade flows and reduced energy cost pressures encouraged investors to re-enter the market, triggering strong buying across major sectors early in the session.
