PSX Closing Bell: Red Caps the Session

The index traded in a range of 1,278.96 points, hitting an intraday high of 175,841.83, down 625.16 points, while the low stood at 174,562.87, down 1,904.12 points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index stood at 261.56 million shares.

Market sentiment remained under pressure amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty, with escalating tensions between the United States and Iran raising fresh concerns over energy supplies and the security of shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Volatility in oil prices further dampened investor risk appetite.

Of the 100 index companies, 18 closed up, while 82 closed down.

Top losers during the day were GAL (-3.21%), HCAR (-3.17%), SRVI (-3.11%), TRG (-2.81%), and TGL (-2.66%).

On the other hand, top gainers were PGLC (+10.01%), EFERT (+2.81%), THALL (+2.46%), IBFL (+1.01%), and BNWM (+0.88%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were MEBL (-152.65pts), UBL (-138.52pts), PPL (-125.02pts), FFC (-105.17pts), and LUCK (-82.85pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were EFERT (+110.93pts), THALL (+15.88pts), AKBL (+11.71pts), ENGROH (+8.32pts), and DCR (+5.71pts).

Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-554.91pts), Cement (-242.02pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-234.72pts), Technology & Communication (-99.69pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-94.99pts).

While the index was supported by Automobile Parts & Accessories (+15.88pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+2.02pts), Sugar & Allied Industries (+1.54pts), Synthetic & Rayon (+1.45pts), and Leasing Companies (+0.57pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 106,113.04 with a net loss of 1,065.46 points or 0.99%.

Total market volume stood at 610.18 million shares compared to 784.47m in the previous session, while traded value was recorded at Rs31.86bn, showing a decrease of Rs5.55bn.

There were 399,198 trades reported in 501 companies, with 113 closing up, 356 closing down, and 32 remaining unchanged.
