PSX Closing Bell: Down We Go

September 07, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s benchmark KSE-100 Index closed Monday’s trading session at 173,636.07, losing 1,692.75 points or 0.97%, as escalating Middle East tensions and a renewed rally in oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.

Oil prices extended their rally on Monday as escalating military action between the United States and Iran involving commercial vessels intensified fears of a prolonged disruption to crude supplies from the Middle East, adding to risk-off sentiment at the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The index traded in a range of 1,749.92 points, hitting an intraday high of 175,353.67, up 24.85 points, while the low stood at 173,603.75, down 1,725.07 points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index stood at 181.93 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies, 12 closed up, 87 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged.


CNERGY (-6.47%), THALL (-5.90%), PGLC (-5.70%), CPHL (-3.32%), and ATRL (-3.05%) remained the top losers.

On the other hand, PSEL (+7.55%), AICL (+3.23%), AKBL (+1.54%), GHGL (+1.06%), and KEL (+0.70%) were among the top gainers.


In terms of index-point contributions, UBL (-368.10pts), OGDC (-186.12pts), PPL (-96.34pts), MCB (-87.32pts), and FFC (-73.21pts) dragged the index lower.

Meanwhile, PSEL (+68.29pts), AKBL (+25.73pts), AICL (+22.55pts), MTL (+10.12pts), and DCR (+5.52pts) provided support.


Sector-wise, Commercial Banks (-621.14pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-313.43pts), Cement (-208.32pts), Fertilizer (-112.18pts), and Refinery (-94.82pts) weighed on the benchmark.

The index received support from Miscellaneous (+63.44pts), Insurance (+22.55pts), Real Estate Investment Trust (+4.54pts), Textile Weaving (+0.06pts), and Sugar & Allied Industries (+0.04pts).


In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 105,405.30, recording a net loss of 1,037.53 points or 0.97%.

Total market volume declined to 679.19 million shares from 874.32m in the previous session, while traded value fell by Rs8.72bn to Rs23.69bn.

A total of 374,744 trades were reported across 495 companies, with 154 closing up, 311 down, and 30 unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 6,666 points or 3.70% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 418 points or 0.24% so far this calendar year.
