PSX Closing Bell: Bulls Under Siege

October 08, 2026 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index fell 1,138.50 points or 0.68% on Thursday to close at 167,441.90, as broad-based selling weighed on the market amid renewed concerns over Middle East tensions and crude supply disruptions.
Oil prices rose as escalating tensions in the region heightened fears of potential disruptions to crude supplies, adding pressure to investor sentiment and risk appetite. The increase in oil prices also raised concerns over external pressures, weighing particularly on energy-intensive sectors.
The index traded in a range of 2,036.72 points, touching an intraday high of 169,486.60, up 906.20 points, before falling to a low of 167,449.88, down 1,130.52 points.
KSE-100 volume stood at 152.07m shares, with market breadth sharply negative as 81 index companies closed lower, 18 higher, and 1 unchanged.

Among the major losers, YOUW declined 4.58%, followed by BML (-3.70%), INIL (-3.11%), GHNI (-2.69%), and FATIMA (-2.68%).
LOTCHEM led the gainers with a rise of 3.95%, followed by HGFA (+2.27%), PSO (+1.11%), ABOT (+1.05%), and IMAGE (+0.88%).

UBL was the biggest drag on the index, taking away 152.76 points, followed by FFC (-85.51pts), SYS (-54.28pts), EFERT (-54.06pts), and POL (-47.84pts).
On the contrary, PSO added 32.84 points to the index, followed by LOTCHEM (+13.54pts), ABOT (+7.18pts), APL (+2.92pts), and HGFA (+2.82pts).

Sector-wise, Commercial Banks led the decline with a negative contribution of 403.25 points, followed by Fertilizer (-183.54pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-146.32pts), Technology & Communication (-79.13pts), and Automobile Assembler (-54.76pts).
The index received support from Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+36.46pts), Chemical (+11.09pts), Close-End Mutual Fund (+2.82pts), Transport (+1.99pts), and Apparel (+1.06pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 101,272.49, shedding 673.69 points or 0.66%.
Total market volume declined to 365.87m shares from 586.86m in the previous session, while traded value fell by Rs4.64bn to Rs17.72bn.
A total of 277,972 trades were reported across 495 companies, with 129 stocks closing higher, 324 lower, and 42 unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 12,860 points or 7.13% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 6,612 points or 3.80% so far this calendar year.
