PSX Closing Bell: Bulls Triumph

August 12, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed Wednesday's session higher, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 465 points as buying interest in oil & gas exploration, cement, power, and selected banking stocks helped lift the market.
The positive momentum came as investors accumulated stocks across key sectors, with strength in exploration companies providing the biggest support to the benchmark. The broader buying interest also helped the index remain in positive territory throughout the session.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 180,311.21, showing an increase of 464.53 points or 0.26%.
The index remained positive throughout the day, touching an intraday high of 180,901.26 (+1,054.58 points) and a low of 179,920.10 (+73.42 points).

The total volume traded in the KSE-100 Index stood at 226.16 million shares.
Of the 100 index companies, 58 closed higher and 42 ended lower.
Top gainers during the day were GHNI (+3.49%), POL (+3.36%), PSX (+3.28%), SSGC (+2.74%), and GAL (+2.55%).
On the other hand, top losers were IBFL (-4.73%), HGFA (-2.93%), NPL (-2.00%), GADT (-1.69%), and PGLC (-1.45%).

In terms of index-point contributions, POL (+107.95pts), MARI (+104.46pts), HBL (+92.19pts), HUBC (+66.30pts), and BAHL (+39.73pts) provided the biggest support to the index.
Meanwhile, MEBL (-134.78pts), EFERT (-42.01pts), OGDC (-31.21pts), UBL (-26.92pts), and FFC (-15.93pts) dragged the benchmark lower.

Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+195.62pts), Cement (+88.97pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+51.57pts), Commercial Banks (+42.48pts), and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+40.50pts).
The index was let down by Fertilizer (-54.83pts), Pharmaceuticals (-10.93pts), Synthetic & Rayon (-7.48pts), Technology & Communication (-6.97pts), and Paper, Board & Packaging (-5.56pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 108,988.15, posting a net gain of 210.19 points or 0.19%.
Total market volume stood at 744.24 million shares, compared with 860.26m in the previous session, while traded value was recorded at Rs32.19 billion, showing a decrease of Rs6.67bn.
A total of 381,450 trades were reported across 490 companies, with 248 stocks closing higher, 211 lower, and 31 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 10 points or 0.01% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 6,257 points or 3.59% so far this calendar year.
