PSX Closing Bell: Bulls Run Out of Answers

July 22, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed Wednesday's session lower, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index coming under pressure as broad-based selling dominated the market amid renewed geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran.
Investor sentiment remained subdued as rising tensions between Washington and Tehran heightened concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supplies.
The sharp increase in crude prices, to $92 per barrel, also raised concerns weighing on market sentiment.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 174,429.92, showing a decrease of 1,703.64 points or 0.97%.
The index traded in a range of 2,151.58 points, touching an intraday high of 176,255.64 (+122.08 points) and a low of 174,104.06 (-2,029.50 points).

The total volume traded in the KSE-100 Index stood at 266.16 million shares.
Of the 100 index companies, 17 closed higher, 83 ended lower.
Top losers during the day were SSGC (-4.50%), SNGP (-3.03%), FCCL (-2.94%), TPLRF1 (-2.80%), and PAEL (-2.68%).
On the gaining side were YOUW (+6.26%), HUMNL (+2.02%), SCBPL (+1.91%), SRVI (+1.67%), and PIOC (+1.06%).

In terms of index-point contributions, UBL (-294.75pts), FFC (-175.22pts), ENGROH (-152.66pts), HUBC (-78.63pts), and LUCK (-74.90pts) exerted the biggest drag on the benchmark.
Meanwhile, SRVI (+28.12pts), MCB (+20.84pts), OGDC (+10.20pts), SCBPL (+8.23pts), and NESTLE (+5.77pts) provided support to the index.

Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-514.11pts), Cement (-199.65pts), Fertilizer (-198.53pts), Investment Banks / Investment Companies / Securities Companies (-174.29pts), and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-135.39pts).
On the positive side, Leather & Tanneries (+28.12pts), Textile Weaving (+0.97pts), Tobacco (+0.45pts), and Woollen (+0.05pts) supported the index, while Leasing Companies (-0.08pts) remained marginally negative.

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 105,686.64, down 882.18 points or 0.83%.
Total market volume stood at 695.70 million shares, compared with 1,003.50m in the previous session, while traded value declined by Rs10.30bn to Rs25.40bn.
A total of 351,359 trades were reported across 491 companies, with 106 stocks closing higher, 353 lower, and 32 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 5,872 points or 3.26% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 376 points or 0.22% so far this calendar year.
