PSX Closing Bell: Bulls Hit the Gas

October 06, 2026 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index surged 2,592.79 points or 1.56% on Tuesday to close at 168,460.10, as broad-based buying returned to the market amid improved investor sentiment following Monday’s sharp sell-off.

Market sentiment was supported by expectations of greater political stability after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the government would not allow protest politics to undermine the country’s economy, while emphasizing that legal measures would be taken to protect lives and property. The remarks helped ease some concerns over domestic political uncertainty and encouraged renewed risk-taking.

The index traded in a range of 2,974.51 points, touching an intraday high of 168,626.18, up 2,758.87 points, while the low stood at 165,651.67, down 215.64 points.

KSE-100 volume stood at 192.37m shares, with market breadth turning strongly positive as 83 index companies closed higher, 16 lower, and 1 unchanged.


AGP led the gainers, rising 7.59%, followed by TRG (+7.56%), CNERGY (+5.90%), AIRLINK (+5.02%), and GHNI (+3.83%).

SSOM was the major laggard, falling 9.97%, followed by IMAGE (-4.42%), HGFA (-2.76%), SAZEW (-2.24%), and TPLRF1 (-2.13%).


ENGROH contributed the most to the index gain, adding 217.05 points, followed by UBL (+214.05pts), HUBC (+198.33pts), HBL (+158.24pts), and OGDC (+153.21pts).

On the contrary, SAZEW dragged the index down by 27.82 points, followed by MCB (-19.23pts), AICL (-9.81pts), TPLRF1 (-8.77pts), and GAL (-6.88pts).


Sector-wise, Commercial Banks led the market’s gains with a contribution of 733.85 points, followed by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+441.63pts), Cement (+251.86pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+239.35pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (+213.30pts).

The index faced marginal pressure from Insurance (-9.81pts), Apparel (-5.62pts), Miscellaneous (-5.60pts), Real Estate Investment Trust (-3.85pts), and Close-End Mutual Fund (-3.47pts).


In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 101,751.43, gaining 1,336.32 points or 1.33%.

Total market volume stood at 432.02m shares compared to 441.87m in the previous session, while traded value increased by Rs4.43bn to Rs20.14bn.

A total of 293,290 trades were reported across 496 companies, with 314 stocks closing higher, 147 lower, and 35 unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 11,842 points or 6.57% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 5,594 points or 3.21% so far this calendar year.
