PSX Closing Bell: Bulls Bow to the Bears

September 08, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s benchmark KSE-100 Index closed Tuesday’s trading session at 172,642.16, down 993.91 points or 0.57%, as escalating tensions between the United States and Iran and a continued rise in oil prices kept investors cautious.
Oil prices climbed for a third consecutive session on Tuesday, hovering near six-week highs as intensifying US-Iran tensions raised concerns over prolonged disruptions to crude supplies from the Middle East, adding to pressure on risk appetite at the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The index remained highly volatile during the session, trading in a range of 2,245.56 points. It hit an intraday high of 173,736.19, up 100.12 points, while the low stood at 171,490.63, down 2,145.44 points.
The total volume of the KSE-100 Index rose to 225.24 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies, 18 closed up, 79 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged.
TRG (-4.54%), GHNI (-3.60%), SCBPL (-3.40%), BNWM (-3.01%), and SRVI (-2.77%) were the top losers.
Among the gainers, PSEL (+10.00%), CNERGY (+2.30%), HGFA (+2.05%), ATRL (+1.60%), and MCB (+1.32%) led the market.

In terms of index-point contributions, UBL (-181.43pts), LUCK (-136.78pts), MEBL (-75.63pts), NBP (-47.55pts), and PPL (-44.14pts) remained the major drags on the index.
On the other hand, PSEL (+97.35pts), MCB (+76.45pts), ATRL (+25.94pts), FFC (+21.04pts), and CNERGY (+14.60pts) provided support.

Sector-wise, Commercial Banks (-334.89pts), Cement (-180.44pts), Automobile Assembler (-103.99pts), Technology & Communication (-67.67pts), and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-59.60pts) weighed on the benchmark.
The index received support from Miscellaneous (+88.22pts), Refinery (+40.54pts), Transport (+2.85pts), Close-End Mutual Fund (+2.73pts), and Modarabas (+1.40pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 104,658.41, recording a net loss of 746.89 points or 0.71%.
Total market volume increased to 722.62 million shares from 679.19m in the previous session, while traded value rose by Rs4.25bn to Rs27.94bn.
A total of 407,745 trades were reported across 496 companies, with 101 closing up, 359 down, and 36 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 7,660 points or 4.25% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 1,412 points or 0.81% so far this calendar year.
