PSX Closing Bell: Bears Run Riot

October 05, 2026 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index plunged 2,288.18 points or 1.36% on Monday to close at 165,867.31, as heightened local political uncertainty and elevated oil prices weighed heavily on investor sentiment.

Concerns over domestic political developments added to risk aversion, while higher oil prices continued to raise worries over external pressures and corporate costs, prompting investors to cut positions across key sectors.

The index traded in a range of 2,154.16 points, touching an intraday high of 167,918.36, down 237.13 points, before falling to a low of 165,764.20, down 2,391.29 points.


KSE-100 volume stood at 169.46m shares, with market breadth remaining sharply negative as 91 index companies closed lower, 8 higher, and 1 unchanged.

Among the major losers, CPHL fell 9.35%, followed by PSX (-9.07%), PIBTL (-7.11%), NPL (-6.59%), and KEL (-5.86%).

POL led the gainers with a rise of 1.16%, followed by TGL (+0.81%), HINOON (+0.23%), SHFA (+0.18%), and FHAM (+0.07%).


UBL was the biggest drag on the index, taking away 205.65 points, followed by ENGROH (-148.30pts), HBL (-147.01pts), HUBC (-105.70pts), and PPL (-99.04pts).

On the contrary, POL contributed 40.20 points, while TGL, HINOON, SHFA, and ABL added 3.00pts, 1.62pts, 0.81pts, and 0.49pts, respectively.


Sector-wise, Commercial Banks led the decline with a negative contribution of 635.13 points, followed by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-218.07pts), Cement (-210.16pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-184.09pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-178.68pts).

The index received only marginal support from Automobile Parts & Accessories (+0.32pts) and Modarabas (+0.07pts), while Synthetic & Rayon remained flat.


In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 100,415.11, shedding 1,406.14 points or 1.38%.

Total market volume stood at 441.87m shares compared to 493.96m in the previous session, while traded value declined by Rs1.78bn to Rs15.71bn.

A total of 317,605 trades were reported across 498 companies, with 55 stocks closing higher, 408 lower, and 35 unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 14,434 points or 8.01% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 8,187 points or 4.70% so far this calendar year.
