PSX Closing Bell: A Minor Mark in Red

August 07, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) ended Friday's session slightly lower, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 347 points as profit-taking in heavyweight commercial banks, fertilizer, and investment companies outweighed gains in select energy and refinery stocks.

Investor sentiment remained cautious as oil prices advanced after Iran released a draft plan outlining new restrictions for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, reigniting concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies and adding to geopolitical uncertainty.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Friday's trading session at 181,430.02, showing a decrease of 346.57 points or 0.19%.

The index traded in a range of 1,027.19 points, touching an intraday high of 181,647.27 (-129.32 points) and a low of 180,620.08 (-1,156.51 points).

The total volume traded in the KSE-100 Index stood at 376.06 million shares.


Of the 100 index companies, 34 closed higher, 65 ended lower, while 1 remained unchanged.

Top losers during the day were GADT (-5.81%), IBFL (-4.38%), PGLC (-2.62%), FHAM (-2.20%), and YOUW (-1.65%).

On the other hand, top gainers were CNERGY (+6.13%), GHGL (+4.78%), POWER (+2.18%), TRG (+1.48%), and BNWM (+1.40%).


In terms of index-point contributions, ENGROH (-131.63pts), UBL (-70.66pts), MCB (-49.94pts), EFERT (-48.86pts), and FATIMA (-29.72pts) exerted the biggest drag on the benchmark.

Meanwhile, HUBC (+70.55pts), MARI (+37.28pts), CNERGY (+33.36pts), GHGL (+23.65pts), and BOP (+22.38pts) provided support to the index.


Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was weighed down by Commercial Banks (-182.37pts), Investment Banks / Investment Companies / Securities Companies (-125.54pts), Fertilizer (-88.33pts), Pharmaceuticals (-28.50pts), and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-17.64pts).

The index found support from Power Generation & Distribution (+63.47pts), Refinery (+46.74pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+26.27pts), Glass & Ceramics (+19.60pts), and Food & Personal Care Products (+11.85pts).


In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 109,168.66, posting a net loss of 139.83 points or 0.13%.

Total market volume stood at 716.04 million shares, compared with 793.35m in the previous session, while traded value was recorded at Rs34.10 billion, showing a decrease of Rs6.21bn.

A total of 392,783 trades were reported across 491 companies, with 206 stocks closing higher, 260 lower, and 25 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 1,128 points or 0.63% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 7,376 points or 4.24% so far this calendar year.
