October 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan Refinery Limited (PSX: PRL) reported a 13.74x surge in its net profit for the first quarter ended September 30, 2026 (1QFY27 / 3MFY27), reaching Rs13.97bn compared to Rs1.02bn in the corresponding period last year.

Reflecting this massive bottom-line expansion, basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter skyrocketed to Rs22.17, up from Rs1.61 in 1QFY26.

The primary catalyst driving the stellar quarterly performance was a 2x expansion in revenue from customer contracts alongside an 8.5x surge in gross profit, powered by robust refining margins and volume dispatches.

Revenue for the quarter doubled to Rs126.18bn, up from Rs61.66bn in 1QFY26.

Although cost of sales increased 72% to Rs101.09bn, gross profit expanded to Rs25.09bn compared to Rs2.94bn in the prior-year period.

On the operational front, overheads increased primarily due to statutory and operating provisions.

Selling expenses rose 33% to Rs213.25m, administrative costs edged up 7% to Rs286.29m, and other operating expenses expanded to Rs1.58bn (up from Rs121.46m).

With "other income" contributing Rs268.07m, operating profit surged 8.3x to Rs23.28bn.

Below the operating line, PRL maintained stable borrowing overheads, with finance costs holding flat at Rs1.10bn.

Accounting for a nominal share of loss from associates of Rs299 thousand, profit before taxation rose to Rs22.18bn.

The company absorbed a higher corporate taxation charge of Rs8.21bn for the quarter (up from Rs669.56m in 1QFY26).

Backed by strong refining throughput and significant gross margin expansion, Pakistan Refinery Limited securely closed the three-month period with its net profit reaching Rs13.97bn.
