PPL JV hits new gas discovery in Sawan Field

November 14, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), through its partner-operated joint venture, reported a gas discovery in the Sawan Field located in District Khairpur, Sindh, according to a filing submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

The Sawan Joint Venture consists of UEP Beta as the operator with a 25% working interest, alongside Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30%), PPL Europe E&P Limited (10%), Prime AEP Limited (30%), and Government Holdings (Private) Limited with a 5% stake.

The consortium made the discovery through its exploratory well Sawan North Deep-1 ST-1 (SND-1 ST-1).

The well was spud-in on 16 September 2024 and successfully drilled to a depth of 14,017 feet (MD).

The primary target was the hydrocarbon potential of the Lower Goru Formation (A-Interval Sands). Wireline log interpretation and drilling results led to post-completion testing within identified promising intervals of the A-sand.

Testing yielded gas production of approximately 0.30 MMscfd, with a Flowing Wellhead Pressure (FWHP) of around 100 psig at a 128/64” choke.

This well marks a significant milestone as the first in the Sawan region to be drilled using an exclusive sequence stratigraphic (trap) evaluation approach.

The success of this pioneering methodology has validated the geological concept and opened new exploration horizons within the Sawan area.
