April 17, 2026 (MLN): The federal government has announced a significant reduction in diesel prices, approving a cut of Rs32.12 per litre following a fresh review of petroleum rates.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced from Rs385.54 to Rs353.43 per litre, with immediate effect as authorities move to pass on the benefit of declining international oil prices to consumers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government is committed to ensuring that relief from global oil price fluctuations reaches the public “as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, petrol prices have been kept unchanged for the next weekly review period starting April 18.

Earlier, the government had also reduced fuel prices in the previous review cycle, including a Rs12 cut in petrol and a Rs135 reduction in diesel rates, citing easing global crude trends.

The latest adjustment comes amid a sharp drop in international oil prices, which fell nearly 13% after developments suggesting reduced geopolitical risk around the Strait of Hormuz, including statements indicating continued safe passage for commercial shipping.
