PM reiterates Pakistan's support for UN multilateralism

July 15, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has reaffirmed its firm commitment to strengthening multilateralism and safeguarding the central role of the United Nations in tackling global challenges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made these remarks while speaking to Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the position of UN Secretary-General, who called on him in Islamabad, said a press release issued.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to uphold the purposes and principles enshrined in the UN Charter, alongside faithful and consistent implementation of UN resolutions and international treaties.

He stressed that member states must work toward achieving balanced progress across all three pillars of the United Nations peace and security, development, and human rights noting that no single pillar could be prioritized at the expense of the others if the organization was to remain effective and credible.

The Prime Minister further called for enhanced international cooperation among member states, urging a renewed and increased focus on accelerating the implementation of the global development agenda.
