PM forms NCMC to oversee energy security

April 23, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC) to closely monitor energy security and coordinate responses to evolving regional developments.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting on energy strategy and regional situation, where officials briefed the Prime Minister on current dynamics and their potential implications for Pakistan’s energy supply chain.

According to details, the newly formed NCMC will function as a central monitoring and coordination body, reviewing the situation on a daily basis and ensuring timely policy responses where required.

The meeting was informed that Pakistan’s energy supplies remain stable, supported by adequate oil and gas reserves.

Authorities also highlighted ongoing measures to strengthen domestic energy resilience, including expansion in solar generation capacity and battery storage systems.

Officials further noted that contingency planning is in place to safeguard uninterrupted energy availability in case of external or regional disruptions.

Reiterating the importance of preparedness, the Prime Minister stressed that energy security is a cornerstone of economic stability and directed all stakeholders to ensure swift and effective coordination through the newly established council.
